In a strategic move to secure regional water and energy resources, Arunachal Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein, highlighted the critical nature of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). The initiative comes in response to potential threats posed by upstream dam constructions in China.
At a MoU signing ceremony, Mein assured that displaced families would receive compensation and comprehensive resettlement plans, in consultation with the affected communities. He further pointed out the project's capacity to bolster economic growth and employment in the region.
The ceremony saw overwhelming support from Begging village, with officials noting more than 85% of households backed the project. Their commitment underscores its importance for the state and nation's water security, reinforcing promises of a sustainable future for the local community.
