On a day marked by reverence and remembrance, Tamil Nadu's Municipal Administration Minister, K.N. Nehru, led the tributes honoring two of India's transformative leaders. In a solemn ceremony held in Trichy, the Minister garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and 'Kalvi Kan Thirandha' Kamaraj, as part of the commemoration of Gandhi's 157th birth anniversary and Kamaraj's 47th death anniversary, respectively. High-ranking officials, including Trichy District Collector Saravanan and Corporation Commissioner Madhubalan, joined the tribute to these iconic figures who have left an indelible mark on India's socio-political landscape.
Minister Nehru's homage was echoed in the Indian capital, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat. Accompanied by Union Minister Manohar Lal, Modi reflected on Gandhi's enduring legacy through a poignant message on social media, reinforcing the nation's commitment to his principles of service, courage, and simplicity. Modi's Twitter post, now reshared globally, serves as a reminder of Gandhi's timeless message of non-violence and compassion.
Globally, October 2 serves a dual purpose, celebrated in India as Gandhi Jayanti and recognized internationally as the International Day of Non-Violence. This year's observance by the United Nations included global appeals for peace, aligning with Gandhi's dictum that truth and non-violence stand more powerful than any weapon. With cultural, educational programs and campaigns examining his life and contributions, Gandhi's legacy continues to inspire new generations to work toward a peaceful, equitable world.
