Rescue operations are fervently ongoing in the Balughat region after a devastating landslide engulfed a private bus, killing 15 and leaving an 8-year-old boy missing, police confirmed on Wednesday. The tragedy, which took place in the Jhandutta area of Bilaspur, has mobilized an extensive search team.
SP Bilaspur Sandeep Dhawal has reported that post-mortem procedures for the victims are underway at the Community Health Centre in Barthin, aided by additional medical personnel arranged by the Chief Minister's Office. Eyewitnesses reported that a similar landslide had occurred recently, raising concerns about the area's safety.
Local resident Pawan Sharma noted past landslides, criticizing the incomplete debris clearance by authorities. Fortunately, no rain compromised recovery efforts, enabling rescuers to retrieve bodies quickly. A swift response from local residents, police, and disaster response teams proved crucial to saving two children. The incident highlights the ongoing threat of landslides in the region following heavy rains.
