Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has announced an ambitious plan to white top 500 kilometers of Bengaluru's roads at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore. Following a detailed project report, the initial phase has seen 148 kilometers already underway, with Rs 1,800 crore allocated to develop 83 roads.

In addition to the white topping initiative, black topping activities are underway, covering 350 kilometers at a cost of Rs 695 crore. The Chief Minister's grant aid of Rs 1,100 crore backs the asphalting of 550 kilometers. Despite a formal request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Rs 1.5 lakh crore towards Bengaluru's development, no response has been received.

DK Shivakumar reaffirmed the government's commitment to major projects like the 113-kilometer elevated corridor and 40 kilometers of tunnel roads. He emphasized the positive legacy of infrastructure development and urged public participation in identifying potholes. Despite criticisms, the government is proceeding with comprehensive urban planning reforms.
