In a significant step to manage festive travel demands, the North Eastern Railway announced the deployment of 186 special trains for Chhath Puja. Chief Public Relations Officer Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted this initiative as part of a broader strategy to accommodate the seasonal influx of passengers post-Diwali.
Singh explained these special trains cater to a surge in travelers heading to and from key stations, such as Gorakhpur, where 59 trains have been added. To facilitate this, the railways have installed additional ticket counters and train display boards to enhance commuter convenience and security.
Across the nation, Indian Railways is set to operate over 12,000 special trains from October to November, averaging 213 trips daily. This effort reflects a substantial increase from the previous year, demonstrating the railways' commitment to providing seamless travel experiences during the busy festive season.
