In a momentous start to the Parliament's Winter Session, the Rajya Sabha extended a heartfelt welcome to newly elected Vice President CP Radhakrishnan as he assumed the role of Chairman of the Upper House. Union Minister JP Nadda, speaking on behalf of the treasury benches, lauded Radhakrishnan for his extensive political and administrative experience, expressing confidence in his ability to lead with integrity.

Nadda spotlighted Radhakrishnan's tenure as Governor in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, emphasizing the dedication he demonstrated by visiting districts and focusing on state welfare. He noted that Prime Minister Modi nominated Radhakrishnan for the Vice Presidency, trusting his leadership skills to capably manage the world's largest democracy's Upper House.

Echoing a call for responsible conduct, Nadda invoked former President Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge congratulated the new Chairman, stressing the importance of impartiality and Opposition space. Kharge called for maintaining democratic values, warning against tyranny if free critique is stifled. He alluded to Radhakrishnan's ties with Congress through his uncle, and mentioned former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's abrupt exit, inciting rebuttal from Minister Kiren Rijiju. These dynamics unfold amid rising political tensions in the Lok Sabha over voter list revisions.
