Russian Drone Blitz: Ukraine's Energy Under Siege
A significant Russian drone and missile assault on Ukraine targeted power facilities in eight regions, resulting in extensive blackouts and disruptions in nuclear power output. The assault marks intensified energy sector targeting, with railways and critical infrastructures also affected amid stalled peace talks.
In a sweeping offensive, Russian drones and missiles struck power facilities across eight Ukrainian regions, plunging vast areas into darkness. The barrage has pressured nuclear power plants to curtail output, according to Ukrainian officials and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The ongoing conflict, now nearing its fourth anniversary, has seen an escalation in attacks on Ukraine's energy and infrastructure sectors, affecting power stations and railway hubs amidst deepening winter conditions.
This latest strike comes as U.S.-brokered negotiations show no signs of progress toward peace. Ukrainian military reports 653 drones and 51 missiles launched overnight, with significant damage to energy facilities in the Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, leaving thousands without heat or water.
