While Senegal is on the brink of its presidential election slated to take place on February 24, the country's former President, Abdoulaye Wade is presently summoning for its cancellation.

The 92-year old Abdoulaye Wade has urged his compatriots to boycott the upcoming Senegal presidential election 2019. In his view, the current Head of State, Macky Sall will win the elections by 55 to 60 percent of the votes in the first round as he has placed mechanism to rig the elections. "He (Macky Sall) eliminated his two serious rivals to the race of the presidency namely; my son Karim Wade, and former mayor of Dakar, Khalifa Sall," Wade opined, as reported by The Point.

Even Wade has also accused Senegalese President Macky Sall of misusing government funds. Karim was previously jailed for about four years and now in exile in Qatar and later pardoned by President Sall and the former mayor, Khalifa Sall is serving jail sentence of five years, the source noted.

"They were eliminated by the constitutional court who said they were not eligible to stand for elections. Another obstacle that President Sall made was to introduce patronage of voters, asking every candidate to have 53 000 signatory voters who signed their support to a candidate countrywide," Senegal's ex-President added.

On the other hand, the Senegalese Democratic Party, PDS, the political movement Wade founded are reportedly firming their feet for a programme of action by February 23 accompanied by other parties, Africa CTGN reported.

After his return from France, according to him, he will give all his efforts to make sure there is no presidential election in Senegal on February 24.
