Patil, aged 90, passed away at his Latur residence.

Earlier in the day, Congress stalwart Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, took to social media to mourn the 'irreparable loss' of Shivraj Patil. Gandhi praised Patil's unwavering dedication to public service, emphasizing the senior Congress leader's lasting impact on both the nation and the party. Expressing condolences, he extended heartfelt sympathies to Patil's family, their well-wishers, and supporters.

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi also expressed deep sorrow over Patil's passing. Speaking to ANI, Gogoi reflected on Patil's significant legacy in Indian politics and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family. Shivraj Patil, who was born in the Chakur village of the Latur district, Maharashtra, was known for his long and illustrious career in Indian politics, marked by numerous significant roles in Parliament and the Union government.
