India marked the 54th Vijay Diwas with a wreath-laying ceremony at New Delhi's National War Memorial, celebrating the Indian Armed Forces' significant triumph in the 1971 conflict. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and top military leaders, including CDS Chief General Anil Chauhan and COAS General Upendra Dwivedi, attended to honor the valorous soldiers.

In a solemn moment, Singh, flanked by the Tri-Service Chiefs, placed a white wreath at the Amar Jawaan jyoti, saluting the bravery and sacrifice that led to the liberation of Bangladesh. The 1971 war concluded dramatically when Pakistani Commander Lt Gen AAK Niazi conceded defeat, signed the Instrument of Surrender, and thus, the nation of Bangladesh was born.

The surrender of Pakistan's Eastern Command to Lieutenant-General Jagjit Singh Aurora marked a significant military achievement. It mandated the Pakistani forces to yield under Aurora's command, ensuring adherence to surrender terms and aligning with international war protocols. December 16 now stands as a poignant reminder of India's decisive victory, celebrated annually as Vijay Diwas.
