B Sairam has taken the helm as the new Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India Limited (CIL). This transition comes at a critical time as CIL seeks to set new production records in response to escalating domestic energy demands.
Sairam succeeds Sanoj Kumar Jha, who served as interim Chairman, following the retirement of P M Prasad. With over 35 years of expertise in coal mining and energy management, Sairam previously led Northern Coalfields Ltd.
Under his leadership, CIL aims to enhance coal production while also venturing into solar power, mineral acquisitions, and coal gasification, aligning with the evolving energy sector. Sairam's commitment to sustainable mining remains pivotal as CIL accounts for more than 80% of the nation's coal output.
