The Karthigai Deepam lighting ritual at a disputed site in Thiruparakondram, Tamil Nadu, has fueled tensions, with allegations of political machinations coming to the fore.
DMK leader TKS Elangovan has accused opposition parties of attempting to create unrest among the Hindu community by challenging the traditionally held ceremony. He asserted that these divisive efforts were coincidentally surfacing as elections neared.
Conversely, Sikkandar Dargah Secretary Arif Khan contends that there is no historical basis for lighting lamps at the contentious site, traditionally reserved for the Uchi Pillaiyar Temple. The Madras High Court recently allowed a peaceful protest demanding lighting rights.
