In a decisive move on Friday, Britain unveiled a £20 million emergency aid package to bolster Ukraine's energy sector. The support comes amidst critical interruptions to Ukraine's power infrastructure following persistent assaults.
The relief aims to ensure the restoration and continuity of electricity and heating in homes, hospitals, and schools during severe winter conditions. Extending beyond energy, the UK enriches its school-twinning initiative, promising to include 300 additional schools to enhance educational ties between the countries.
British and Ukrainian leaders emphasized the importance of this collaboration. Prime Minister Keir Starmer underscored the significance of the initiative, viewing it as a counteraction to values under threat by Russia. Concurrently, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper highlighted the development of skills for young people as a pivotal benefit. The UK has, thus far, pledged over £470 million in support to Ukraine's energy sector.
