Amid the biting cold and dense fog gripping Gautam Buddha Nagar, District Basic Education Officer Rahul Pawar ordered all schools from Nursery to Class 8 to shut down for Friday and Saturday. The directive applies to institutions across all boards, and the compliance mandate is immediate.

Despite schools closing, teachers and staff at government and aided schools are expected to report for duty. The region's temperature dipped to 6 degrees Celsius, with the India Meteorological Department warning of persistent foggy conditions across the district.

Chandigarh faces similar chilly weather. The District Education Office has extended school winter vacations till January 17, 2026. This order, signed by District Education Officer Rajan Jain, follows previous mandates and requires all government and aided school heads to strictly adhere to the new schedule.
