The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) announced the simplification of guidelines for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) and Foreign Venture Capital Investors (FVCIs), debuting a new framework dubbed SWAGAT-FI.
Under this revised system, eligible investors can register without submitting separate applications, provided they use the same custodian and Designated Depository Participant. Streamlined renewal and Know Your Customer (KYC) processes extend registration validity and review intervals to 10 years for SWAGAT-FI participants.
Effective June 1, 2026, this initiative aims to make India more attractive for low-risk foreign investors, facilitating a seamless investment experience and aligning with recent efforts to enhance foreign participation in the Indian securities market.
