Fisheries Secretary Abhilaksh Likhi on Friday called on states and Union Territories to ensure timely and efficient disbursal of funds for central fisheries schemes. Addressing the National Fisheries Secretaries Conference, he highlighted the importance of a time-bound strategy in developing Integrated Aquaparks and promoting seaweed farming and Climate-Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages (CRCFVs).

Encouraging digitalization, Likhi urged states to boost registrations on the National Fisheries Digital Portal. He noted existing deficiencies in aquaculture insurance coverage, advocating for expanded uptake to protect fisher livelihoods. States were advised to monitor fisheries components under the PM Dhan Dhanya Yojana to ensure grassroots delivery.

The conference reviewed the implementation of key schemes like PMMSY, FIDF, and PM-MKSSY, alongside the Marine Fisheries Census 2025 and seafood export strategies. Key outcomes included recommending Maharashtra discontinue its deep-sea fishing vessel lottery, with directives issued to other states for specific project advancements.
