Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has marked a significant day for the state by laying the foundation stone of the Tuirini small hydro power project, valued at Rs 676.98 crore, in Aizawl district. The initiative, aimed at boosting Mizoram's energy self-sufficiency, will generate 24 Megawatts (MW) of power upon completion.

This crucial project is being financially supported by the New Development Bank through a loan, with 80% of its cost covered by the Center and the remaining 20% by the state government. Mizoram is making strides with its various renewable energy ventures, including state-owned solar power plants inaugurated last year and the current development of an additional 5 MW solar facility.

In a broader push for self-reliance, the state is in the pipeline for further hydroelectric projects, with detailed plans underway and expressions of interest for solar initiatives issued across the region. The state's strategy captures surplus power trading benefits, contributing significantly to financial gains alongside promoting green energy.
