Karnataka's Minor Irrigation Minister N S Boseraju has instructed the review of a BHEL feasibility report for installing floating solar power plants on lakes. The initiative aims to cut electricity costs for lift irrigation by generating renewable energy, starting with a pilot project at Somambudi Agrahara Lake.

Karnataka's Minor Irrigation Minister N S Boseraju has called for an evaluation of a feasibility report by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on floating solar power plants on state lakes. The aim is to cut electricity costs for lift irrigation projects under the Minor Irrigation Department.

The minister discussed the report in a review meeting with department officials and representatives from BESCOM and KREDL. BHEL's study suggests that a pilot project at Somambudi Agrahara Lake in Kolar could generate about 100 MW of renewable energy, significantly contributing to the state's energy capacity.

Boseraju emphasized the financial strain of current irrigation schemes and the need for sustainable energy solutions. He instructed officials to finalize an actionable plan for the project's implementation after a technical re-evaluation of BHEL's findings, to meet Karnataka's green energy objectives.
