In response to tribal and non-tribal conflicts over local council poll nominations, the Meghalaya Board of School Education has postponed two class 12 exams in West Garo Hills. The clashes led to violence, resulting in disrupted schedules for the music and anthropology papers of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSSLC).
TR Laloo, the Director Accreditation and Controller of Examinations, stated that exams on March 11 and 12 have been cancelled in the district and will be rescheduled. Meanwhile, other areas of the state continue as planned, with over 29,000 students sitting for these critical exams.
Following police firing that claimed two lives during the skirmishes, the government has imposed a curfew and involved the Army. These actions aim to secure safety for students and staff amid escalating tensions.
