22 Sudanese museum workers trained in UNESCO's organized Training on First Aid

The opening session was honoured by H.E. Dr Pavel Kroupkine, the UNESCO Representative to Sudan, who highlighted the importance of Risk Management / Disaster Preparedness capacities for teams of the Museums and World Heritage Sites.

On 4-7 February 2019, the UNESCO Khartoum Office in partnership with the Sudanese National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums and National Commission for Education, Science and Culture organized Training on First Aid for Museum Workers in Kanon Hotel, Khartoum 2, and in the Sudanese National Museum. 22 Sudanese museum workers were trained, including 11 women, and 9 professionals from outside of the capital metropolis.

The opening session was honoured by H.E. Dr Pavel Kroupkine, the UNESCO Representative to Sudan, who highlighted the importance of Risk Management / Disaster Preparedness capacities for teams of the Museums and World Heritage Sites. Dr Ghalia Garelnabi, the Director of the Museums in the NCAM, and Dr Iglal Al Malik, the Director of Conservation, welcomed participants.

Then, starting technical sessions Mr Abdelhamid Salah, the trainer, a cultural professional from Egypt, presented Risk Management for Cultural Heritage Collections, including general concept and case studies. Following days, the participants, working in both locations, the Kanon hotel and the Sudanese National Museum, acquired theoretical and practical skills for safeguarding cultural values.

The closing session of the training on 7 February was honoured by H.E. Dr Somia Idris Okoued, the State Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, H.E. Dr Pavel Kroupkine, the UNESCO Representative to Sudan, and Dr Abdelgadir Noureddin, the Secretary-General of Sudanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture. Concluding several speeches, the participants received their certificates.
