US Urges India to Redirect Russian Oil From Sea to Refineries
The US has suggested India purchase Russian oil floating at sea to redirect it to Indian refineries. This short-term initiative aims to alleviate supply shortages and price spikes amid the West Asia conflict, without altering the US's policy towards Russia, according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
The United States has called on India to purchase Russian oil currently circulating at sea and redirect it to Indian refineries. This strategy aims to alleviate fears of supply shortages and control price spikes amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, according to US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
Despite the suggestion, Wright emphasized that this move does not imply a change in US policy towards Russia. The proposal is seen as a pragmatic, short-term solution to stabilize the oil market. Wright, along with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, discussed the option with Indian authorities.
"India has been a great partner through this," Wright mentioned in an interview with CNN, explaining how Indian refineries could process the waiting crude more swiftly than Chinese facilities, potentially diminishing market concerns. India is reportedly clear on the US's unchanged stance towards Russia.
