Boosting the Grid: India's Transmission Capacity Surge
India's inter-regional transmission capacity is set to increase significantly, reaching 143 GW by 2027 and 168 GW by 2032. The current capacity, at 120 GW, faces no constraints nationally. Delays in inter-state projects due to right-of-way issues, however, are impacting timelines.

India is poised to significantly enhance its inter-regional transmission capacity, with plans to elevate it to 143 GW by 2027, and further to 168 GW by 2032, as informed by Union Minister Shripad Naik to Parliament on Monday.
Currently, the country's transmission capacity stands at 120 GW, and there are no national-level constraints. This ongoing expansion aligns with the projected electricity demand, which is expected to peak at 388 GW by 2032.
However, delays in 25 inter-state transmission projects, attributed to Right of Way (RoW) issues, present challenges. While electricity management is primarily a state responsibility, overcoming these hindrances remains crucial for future grid expansion.
