Fire on the Waters: Iranian Strikes Escalate Middle East Tensions
Two tankers in Iraqi waters were ablaze following attacks linked to Iranian forces, intensifying tensions in the Middle East. The attacks, verified to have been caught on camera, mark a major disruption to global energy supplies. Oil prices soared as the crisis unfolded.
Two tankers were set ablaze in Iraqi waters on Thursday, an apparent escalation in Iranian-hosted attacks disrupting Middle East energy supplies. This move defies President Donald Trump's assertion of victory in the region's ongoing turmoil.
According to images authenticated by Reuters, the ships were engulfed in enormous orange fireballs lighting up the night at the Basra port. Iraqi authorities stated the vessels were attacked overnight by Iranian explosive-laden boats, leading to at least one fatality among the crew.
Earlier that day, additional ships were struck in the Gulf as Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for one of the incidents. Global energy supply has been severely impacted, contributing to soaring oil prices, which surged above $100 a barrel.
