Odisha Powers Up: Expansive Rooftop Solar Initiative Underway
The Odisha government has installed rooftop solar plants on 56,793 buildings as part of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. With subsidies provided to over 35,000 beneficiaries, the project is backed by both state and central funding. A budget of Rs 1,800 crore has been set for future expansion.

The Odisha government has achieved a significant milestone by installing rooftop solar plants on 56,793 buildings across the state under the central scheme, Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo revealed the figures in the Assembly, highlighting the state's commitment to renewable energy. A total of 2,01,443 applications have been received, with installations completed for 46,793 beneficiaries so far.
The government has also extended subsidies to over 35,000 individuals. In Bhubaneswar city, the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency installed solar plants on 28 government offices, with a combined capacity of 1850 KW. The project, supported by central and state funding, has a budgetary provision of Rs 1,800 crore for the next three financial years.
