Creating a Safety Zone: Protecting Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Plant from Disaster

A senior Russian official has urged the implementation of a safety zone around Iran's Russian-built Bushehr nuclear plant. The call came after a projectile struck within a few hundred meters of the reactor, raising concerns about potential catastrophes in the region.

Alexei Likhachev, head of Rosatom, highlighted the risks, noting 72 tons of fissile material and 210 tons of spent nuclear fuel are located at the site.

Rosatom has begun evacuating staff, and Likhachev appeals for political intervention to prevent further strikes, emphasizing the need for the area to become a safe zone.
