In a recent development, the global commodity trading firm Trafigura has dismissed claims by Bolivia's Energy Minister Mauricio Medinaceli regarding the suspension of contracts with Bolivia's state-owned oil and gas company YPFB.

The dispute arose after Medinaceli announced on Tuesday that Bolivia would pause its gasoline contracts with Trafigura and its competitor, Vitol, pending investigations into poor quality fuel allegedly smuggled from Chile.

A spokesperson for Trafigura clarified that its agreements with YPFB are unrelated to gasoline supply, stating these contracts remain intact. Furthermore, Trafigura asserted its adherence to contractual obligations, noting absence of any complaints from YPFB. Meanwhile, Vitol has yet to comment on the situation following allegations that a smuggling network transported altered fuel worth an estimated $150 million into Bolivia from Chile between October 2025 and March 2026.
