Revolutionizing Profits: The Future of Autonomous Food Delivery
Autonomous food delivery robots and drones are set to dramatically reduce delivery costs, potentially increasing global food delivery profits by billions, according to Barclays. Companies like DoorDash and Meituan are expected to benefit from early automation adoption. Barclays forecasts a significant growth in autonomous delivery by 2035.
Autonomous food delivery robots and drones could slash delivery costs to as low as $1 per order, potentially unlocking billions in profits for the global food delivery industry, according to a Barclays report released Wednesday.
Major platforms like DoorDash are teaming up with autonomous delivery operators, using sidewalk delivery robots and drones as part of a clear strategic shift. Currently, autonomous delivery costs in early adoption markets range from $5 to $7 per order, which is $3 to $4 less than traditional deliveries, Barclays noted.
Barclays predicts these costs could eventually fall to $1 per order, creating an estimated $16 billion global profit potential. With autonomous deliveries still in early stages, the bank expects penetration to hit 10% by 2035, benefiting companies like DoorDash, Meituan, Uber, and stakeholders like Prosus and Delivery Hero.
