An American YouTuber known as Johnny Somali has been sentenced to six months in prison for a series of provocative stunts in South Korea. His actions included dancing on a statue honoring wartime sexual slavery victims, leading to widespread national outrage. The Seoul Western District Court found Somali guilty of several charges, including obstruction of business and distributing fabricated sexually explicit content.

Prosecutors had initially sought a three-year term for Somali, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael. He faced additional charges for harassing staff and visitors at amusement parks, disrupting convenience stores, and creating disturbances on public transport, as well as distributing non-consensual deepfake videos.

The court cited Somali's severe disrespect for South Korean law and noted his offensive actions aimed at generating YouTube revenue. Following the verdict, Somali was detained immediately due to concerns that he might flee the country. He apologized for his actions, claiming ignorance of the memorial's significance, and expressed regret to South Korean reporters.
