Colombia's banana industry is bracing for a 5% decline in exports for 2026 after heavy rains inundated the Uraba region, as reported by an industry official on Friday.

The Colombian banana sector enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2025, exporting 133 million 20-kilogram boxes, driven by optimal weather conditions and increased productivity. This success cemented Colombia's status as the world's fourth-largest banana exporter.

However, the outlook for 2026 is less promising as flooding has impacted 1,200 hectares of banana plantations, reducing the expected output. Bananas remain a crucial agricultural export for Colombia, supporting over 200,000 jobs and generating significant revenue from the European Union, the U.S., and the UK markets.
