In a troubling development, the All Manipur Private Ambulance Owners Association disclosed a grave incident involving the alleged assault on ambulance staff by security personnel while on emergency duty in Imphal East district. Addressing the press at the Manipur Press Club, Romen Yendrembam, the proprietor of Kangleicha Ambulance, detailed the unsettling events of April 17, 2026.

As reported, the ambulance, outfitted with a ventilator for a critical mission, faced numerous checkpoints and was halted at Khurai. Despite clarifying their emergency status, three staff members, including the driver, were allegedly attacked. These events have raised acute concerns regarding the secure and unobstructed movement of emergency medical vehicles in the region.

Romen voiced a heartfelt appeal to authorities and the public for cooperation, underscoring that ambulances are critical lifelines. Highlighting the risk to innocent lives from such impediments, he urged the Chief Minister to ensure safe transit for emergency services. The association is calling for civilian respect towards emergency personnel and an immediate safeguard from the government.
