India's Northwest and Central Regions Brace for Heat Wave

The India Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave alert for parts of northwest and central India, anticipating scorching conditions over the next three days. Delhi's Chief Minister stresses on the implementation of the Heat Wave Action Plan 2026 to mitigate risks posed by rising temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave alert affecting parts of northwest and central India. The warning comes as scorching temperatures are expected to persist over the next three days, impacting regions such as Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, and Gujarat on June 27.

The weather forecast indicates mainly clear skies transitioning to partly cloudy conditions, particularly over Delhi, where isolated places may experience heat wave conditions. The IMD advised caution against prolonged exposure to heat and recommended wearing lightweight, light-colored cotton clothing, along with head coverings such as cloth, hats, or umbrellas when outdoors.

Amid escalating temperatures, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has urged officials to enforce the Heat Wave Action Plan 2026 rigorously. Highlighting the severity, Gupta mentioned that Delhi has experienced temperatures surpassing 40°C for nearly 40 days continuously in recent years. Measures to protect citizens, especially school children, and construction workers from the heat include administering ORS solutions and enforcing safety protocols during peak heat hours.
