Ukraine's Bold Drone Strikes: Disrupting Russia's Oil Economy

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has launched drone attacks on an oil refinery near the Russian city of Perm. The move is part of a series of strikes aimed at disrupting Russia's oil industry and reducing its war revenues. The refinery, one of Russia's largest, suffered significant damage.

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) reported on Thursday that its drones targeted an oil refinery near Russia's Perm city. This marks a second continuous attack on regional oil facilities as Kyiv aims to cut down Moscow’s energy-driven war finances.

The refinery, owned by Lukoil and situated over 1,500 km from Ukraine, is among Russia's largest with a yearly capacity of about 13 million metric tons. Lukoil has not provided any immediate comments regarding the incident.

SBU stated that the strike impacted a primary oil processing unit at the refinery, causing it to become non-operational. A nearby oil pumping station, critical for the refinery's oil supply, was also targeted, leading to new fires. These operations coincide with increased global oil prices and eased sanctions on Moscow.
