The Special Fast Track Court has denied bail to Shyamkanu Mahanta, a key figure implicated in the tragic Zubeen Garg death case. Mahanta, who played a pivotal role in organizing the North East India Festival in Singapore, sought bail on April 10, but Justice Sharmila Bhuyan turned down his plea after reviewing arguments from both sides.

The case gained complexity following the arrest of both Mahanta and Garg's manager, Siddharth Sharma, in October 2025. Garg, a renowned singer, passed away on September 19, 2025, while at a yacht party in Singapore. Reports indicate that he was heavily intoxicated and drowned after discarding his life jacket. Testimonies revealed concerns over his health, citing irregular sleep patterns and a history of seizures.

The investigation has been extensive, with a massive 12,000-page chargesheet implicating Mahanta and six others. Among them are notable figures including Garg's bandmate and co-singer. The SIT/CID has levied serious charges, specifically murder under Section 103 of BNS, against four individuals, intensifying scrutiny in the ongoing legal process.
