In a significant revelation, two cement companies in Meghalaya are facing allegations of breaching transport norms for over 2.93 lakh metric tonnes of coal, as per a report by a high court-appointed committee.
The committee, led by retired judge B P Katakey, found the companies in violation of SOP 2024, as they moved coal into the state without required approvals from February 2025 to February this year.
Justice Katakey's report urges strict adherence to SOP regulations, examination of transport documents, and suggests implementing GPS tracking and smart check-points to curb illegal coal transport.
