Akhil Gogoi, Raijor Dal president and candidate for the Sivasagar constituency, expressed optimism on Monday at the start of vote counting in Assam. He asserted that Congress and its allies are poised to secure over 70 seats, potentially allowing them to form the government.

Gogoi extended his best wishes to all 722 candidates across 126 constituencies, emphasizing the potential for opposition parties to govern the state. The Congress has allied with five other parties, including Raijor Dal, to challenge the ruling BJP-led NDA.

Despite Gogoi's confidence, exit polls forecast a different outcome, projecting a third term for the BJP-led NDA with 88 to 100 seats. Meanwhile, Congress-led alliances are predicted to secure between 24 and 36 seats. Counting commenced under heavy security across Assam's 35 districts, as the state braces for the final results.
