Supply Chain Ripple: How Global Conflict Impacts India's LPG Consumption
India's LPG consumption plummeted by 16% in April due to supply disruptions from conflicts in West Asia, impacting both households and businesses. The government prioritized household needs by cutting commercial allocations and extending refill intervals. Despite previous growth, government initiatives are challenged by geopolitical tensions.
India's LPG consumption experienced a significant 16% drop in April, primarily due to supply disruptions stemming from the West Asia conflict, the latest official data reveals.
Consumption fell to 2.2 million tonnes from 2.62 million tonnes in the same month last year. This decline emerged as the government reduced supplies to commercial sectors, ensuring household availability amidst import challenges through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Indian government's strategy to replace polluting fuels with LPG is under strain, given the geopolitical tensions affecting the supply chain.
