As shifts in political power unfold in West Bengal, residents near TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's Kolkata residence have noticed a marked decrease in security measures. The downgraded police presence has allowed locals greater ease of movement, reflecting broader electoral changes following the BJP's decisive assembly election victory.
On Wednesday, local resident Sourav Banerjee described the significant alteration in his community's security setup, contrasting the current peaceful conditions with the previous heavy police deployment for TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee. Despite criticism over the leader's lack of community contribution, residents now appreciate the calmer atmosphere.
Earlier, the Election Commission of India directed West Bengal officials to practice 'zero tolerance' against post-election violence after a vandalism incident at a TMC office. Following the BJP's historic 207-seat win ending TMC's regime, the political dynamics in the state signal a shifting electorate, with the BJP securing 45.84% of the vote share above TMC's 40.80%, indicating a contested yet transformative political landscape.
