In a sharp denunciation of the century-long DMK-Congress alliance, TR Baalu, Treasurer of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), launched a blistering attack on the Congress party following the defection of five Congress MLAs to the opposition. He accused Congress of "blatant betrayal" and opportunism, undermining the trust between longtime allies and the people of Tamil Nadu.
Baalu argued that Congress's claim of principled politics was merely a "veneer of opportunism," predicting that time would reveal the truth. This rebuke comes after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) made a strong debut in assembly polls, securing support from five Congress MLAs. Previously, Congress had contested the election as a part of the DMK-led alliance but later allied with TVK.
Baalu, on behalf of DMK, criticized Congress's defections, labeling it a facade and recalling the historical camaraderie with figures such as Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Despite this shake-up, he assured that the DMK movement remains steadfast. He emphasized that betrayal is not new to the DMK and expressed confidence that the truth will prevail over time.
