Authorities in Greece have launched an investigation after fishermen discovered a drone boat on the Ionian island of Lefkada, sources from the police and coast guard reported on Friday.

The unmanned surface vehicle (USV), identified as Ukrainian, was found late Thursday and initially thought to be a MAGURA model with three detonators, although the drone's manufacturer, UForce, has denied this.

Officials are considering whether the drone was intended for use against ships carrying Russian oil in the Mediterranean. Bomb disposal teams have started dismantling the drone, while investigators attempt to uncover its origin and intended target.
