Suvendu Adhikari, the newly appointed Chief Minister of West Bengal, took his oath of office on Wednesday following a momentous victory in the 2026 assembly polls from Nandigram and Bhabanipur. The ceremony, attended by state dignitaries, was held at the Legislative Assembly, where Adhikari was accorded a Guard of Honour.
The BJP's leadership in the West Bengal government represents a historic political shift, as highlighted by their win in 206 seats compared to their previous tally of 77. In stark contrast, the Trinamool Congress, once dominant with 212 seats, fell to just 80. Upon taking office, Adhikari expressed his commitment to ushering in the 'Sonar Bangla' era.
Immediately following his swearing-in, Chief Minister Adhikari announced a major policy initiative: the transfer of land to the Border Security Force to facilitate fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. Addressing the media post-cabinet meeting, he emphasized that this action was a priority for his administration as part of the BJP's governance strategy to tackle illegal infiltration.
