Asian flour millers are scrambling to secure wheat cargoes following a hiatus of over two months. Severe drought conditions in the U.S. combined with forecasts of dry weather due to El Nino in key producing regions have sparked fears of dwindling global wheat supplies.

Recently, Indonesian buyers, the world's second-largest wheat importer, and Thai millers finalized deals for substantial wheat purchases. Traders report that Malaysian and Vietnamese millers are also inquiring about new supplies in a bid to strengthen their reserves.

The renewed interest comes after rising freight costs and supply disruptions linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis had sidelined buyers.
