The Shimla District Police have escalated their campaign against drug traffickers, dismantling numerous interstate narcotics supply networks under the NDPS Act in 2026. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Additional Superintendent of Police in Shimla stated that comprehensive investigations, digital evidence analysis, and backward linkage tracking have been instrumental in targeting major suppliers across various states.

A notable case emerged from Boileauganj Police Station, with an FIR dated March 20, 2026, where authorities recovered 93.970 grams of heroin from five accused individuals from Haryana. Those arrested include Anjeet from Sonipat, Irfan from Jhajjar, Ravikant from Sonipat, Mukesh from Jhajjar, and Narendra from Sonipat. Through detailed interrogation and digital evidence examination, Gurmeet alias Billa from Faridkot, Punjab, was identified as the source, allegedly employing virtual numbers to evade detection.

The investigation progressed with the arrest of Gurmeet Singh, a primary supplier from Mehmuana village in Punjab, captured by a Baluganj Police team in Ludhiana on May 13, 2026. Separate efforts by Theog Police led to the apprehension of Shiv Shankar from Bilari, Uttar Pradesh, following the recovery of 8.34 grams of heroin - traced through extensive questioning, bank transaction assessments, and digital analysis. Additional SP Abhishek highlighted remarkable improvements in NDPS Act-related investigations, citing substantial success against organized narcotics networks in 2026.

Officials reported 35 arrests via backward linkage probes this year, a record high compared to seven in 2024 and ten in 2025. Additionally, 26 drug trafficking networks were dismantled in 2026, surpassing previous years. The operations have effectively targeted interstate supply chains from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala.

"The Shimla Police have significantly enhanced the quality of NDPS case investigations, now targeting key suppliers by tracing backward linkages and analyzing digital evidence," said the Additional Superintendent of Police. These efforts, ongoing throughout 2026, have dismantled several interstate drug trafficking networks, massively disrupting narcotics supply chains. The anti-drug initiative will persist with full vigor."
