Empowering Jammu and Kashmir's Women: A Rural Revolution

Jammu and Kashmir's Rural Livelihoods Mission, known as UMEED, is making headlines as it gains national attention for its transformative impact on rural communities. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah commended the initiative for significantly empowering women through self-help groups and fostering financial inclusion.
The Union Minister for Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, also praised UMEED, emphasizing its potential to scale high-value enterprises and strengthen market ecosystems across the Union Territory. The program has facilitated over Rs 3,106 crore in bank credit, demonstrating its role in financial empowerment.
Under initiatives like Lakhpati Didi, Jammu and Kashmir continues to set benchmarks in women-led rural development, with over 8.1 lakh women mobilized into more than 96,000 self-help groups. This successful model highlights an important shift towards inclusive growth powered by women entrepreneurs.
