CNG Price Surge Sparks Concern in National Capital

CNG prices in the national capital were increased by Re 1 per kg, marking the second hike in less than a week. Indraprastha Gas Ltd cited rising input gas costs and USD appreciation as reasons. Despite the rise, CNG remains significantly more economical than alternative fuels.

On Sunday, the cost of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) was raised by Re 1 per kg, the second such increase in under a week. Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the leading city gas distributor in India, now prices CNG at Rs 80.09 per kg in the national capital.

This hike follows a recent Rs 2 per kg increase earlier that same week. However, the prices of piped natural gas for households remain unchanged, according to an announcement by IGL.

'The retail selling price of CNG has been increased by Re 1/kg effective 6 am on 17.05.2026 in all geographical areas,' IGL stated, explaining that this adjustment was necessary to combat rising input gas costs and the steep appreciation of the US dollar. Despite the revised rates, CNG still offers up to 45 percent savings in running costs over alternative fuels.
