Granuvia: Revolutionizing Paddy Pest Control

Insecticides India Limited (IIL) has unveiled Granuvia, a new granular insecticide crafted by Corteva Agriscience, aiming to protect paddy crops from two harmful pests: brown planthopper (BPH) and stem borer. Designed to ensure up to 60 days of protection, Granuvia addresses the pervasive issue of yield losses, which can reach up to 60% during severe infestations.

According to IIL, last year's widespread BPH outbreaks affected millions of acres across several states, compelling farmers to intervene multiple times. Granuvia, a Corteva Agriscience India Pvt Ltd registered trademark, will be exclusively supplied to IIL. The product is recommended for application 30 to 35 days after transplanting, coinciding with a period of heightened crop vulnerability.

Chief Marketing Officer Dushyant Sood emphasized the granular formulation's design to minimize application costs and the number of interventions necessary, a common issue for rice farmers dealing with BPH cycles. Field trials demonstrated enhanced tillering, increased crop density, and healthier plants while effectively managing pests. Given India's status as the world's second-largest rice producer, effective pest management is crucial for sustaining productivity.
