Himachal Pradesh High Court's Austerity Drive: Work-from-Home and Carpooling Initiatives

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has announced austerity measures to curb fuel consumption and enhance operational efficiency within its administrative framework. This initiative includes work-from-home provisions for registry staff and carpooling arrangements for judges, as outlined in a circular issued by Registrar General Bhupesh Sharma on May 18.

This strategic move aligns with directives from the Government of India's Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and follows the Supreme Court's guidance on resource optimization. It also coincides with recent austerity measures introduced by the Himachal Pradesh Governor's Secretariat.

Judges have unanimously agreed to carpool, addressing fuel consumption concerns heightened by the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Up to 50% of registry staff will work remotely up to two days a week, ensuring court operations remain uninterrupted. Registrars hold the authority to adjust work-from-home policies to maintain effective administrative and judicial functions.
