Boy drowns in Godavari river in Maharashtra's Beed

A 13-year-old boy drowned in the Godavari river in Majalgaon tehsil of Maharashtras Beed district on Tuesday morning when he went there to take a bath, police said.The victim, Akash Laxman Mhetre, was a resident of Majalgaon town.Akash had accompanied his family members to Purushottampuri, around 20 kms from Majalgaon, which attracts a large number of devotees to a temple.Akashs family set up a small stall to sell snacks during the pilgrimage.

A 13-year-old boy drowned in the Godavari river in Majalgaon tehsil of Maharashtra's Beed district on Tuesday morning when he went there to take a bath, police said.

The victim, Akash Laxman Mhetre, was a resident of Majalgaon town.

Akash had accompanied his family members to Purushottampuri, around 20 kms from Majalgaon, which attracts a large number of devotees to a temple.

Akash's family set up a small stall to sell snacks during the pilgrimage. He was assisting his parents and brother in the business, the police said.

On Tuesday morning, he went to take a bath in the river but ventured into a deep section of the river and drowned. On noticing the incident, local residents and other people rushed to rescue him, but failed to find him, they said.

After an extensive search, the boy was traced and taken to a private hospital in Majalgaon, where doctors declared him dead.

Following a post-mortem examination at the rural hospital, the body was handed over to relatives and the last rites were performed.
