In a welcome change for the people of Kotputli, a sudden downpour late Friday night alleviated the oppressive heat that had gripped the region. Heavy rain and strong winds provided much-needed relief to the public, who had been enduring sweltering conditions for the past several days.
While residents felt grateful for the rare respite, local farmers voiced concerns about the agricultural implications. The rain interrupted the 'Notapa' period, traditionally a time when intense heat acts as a pest deterrent, crucial for the upcoming Rabi season. Farmers fear that this interruption could affect pest control measures in their fields.
The altered weather also prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to advise caution, urging residents to avoid vulnerable structures during high wind periods. Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather highlighted that this rain spell is notably stronger than previous occurrences, with expectations of continued impact through to May 30 as the system moves towards Gujarat.
