AC Unit Malfunction Sparks Fatal Fire in Retired IAS Officer's Home

A malfunction in an air conditioning unit triggered a deadly fire at the home of retired IAS officer Dhanendra Kumar in Hauz Khas, resulting in his demise. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anant Mittal stated that the fire broke out on May 27, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
According to DCP Mittal, the emergency call was received at 11:18 pm, and police teams were quick to arrive on the scene. Two injured individuals, including Kumar, were rushed to the hospital in a PCR vehicle. Officers used nearby water sources to contain the blaze until fire services arrived.
The preliminary investigation points to an AC malfunction as the cause of the fire, with Kumar reportedly collapsing due to smoke inhalation. An FIR has been filed, citing culpable homicide not amounting to murder. A detailed electrical inspection is pending to confirm the exact cause.
