In a significant move towards modernising its maritime sector, India unveiled the Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) for fiscal year 2024-25 on Thursday. The announcement, made by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, represents a national effort to enhance governance and streamline operations across the shipping ecosystem.
The newly introduced LPPI serves as a national benchmark to evaluate and improve port efficiency, aligning with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and Maritime India Vision 2030. This strategic initiative underscores India's ambition to strengthen its position in global logistics and maritime trade.
Along with the LPPI, the government rolled out four digital initiatives aimed at transforming service delivery and accountability among maritime stakeholders. These initiatives include a Grievance Redressal Module for seafarers and a Ship Registration Module, positioned as pivotal steps to bolster India's maritime administration.
